For more than 18 years, Above Green has helped shape the future of high-performance buildings through sustainability consulting, commissioning, testing and advisory services across the United States.

What began as a specialised consultancy had evolved into a multidisciplinary organisation with a growing team and expanding service offering. As the business matured, its website no longer reflected the depth of expertise, breadth of capabilities, or scale of the organisation.

Studio Black Iris partnered with Above Green to redesign the website, creating a platform that better represented the business today while supporting its future growth.

Structure

From a Single Page to a Digital Ecosystem

Above Green's original website was built as a single long-scroll homepage, developed at a time when the organisation was smaller in both scale and service offering. As the business expanded from three core services to six specialised disciplines, the existing structure no longer provided the space needed to communicate the breadth of its expertise. We reimagined the website architecture, transforming it from a standalone landing page into a connected digital ecosystem. Dedicated pages were introduced for individual services, case studies, team members, company history, careers and culture, allowing visitors to explore the organisation in greater depth and navigate content based on their interests and needs. The new structure created opportunities for richer storytelling, improved discoverability, stronger SEO performance and a more scalable foundation for future growth.

As Above Green's capabilities expanded, so too did the challenge of communicating them clearly. The website needed to showcase not only what the organisation does, but the depth of knowledge, experience, and leadership behind its work. We refined how services, sectors, team members and project expertise were presented across the website, creating a clearer narrative around the organisation's role within the industry. New content pathways provided greater visibility into individual service areas while elevating the people and expertise that underpin the business.

Alongside the structural and content redesign, we developed a more contemporary visual experience that balanced technical credibility with clarity and accessibility. The website was designed to feel professional and authoritative without losing sight of the people behind the work. To support this, we introduced a series of custom collage-style graphics throughout the website. The visual language drew inspiration from Above Green's expertise and the human touch brought to each project. By introducing texture, depth and a stronger sense of human presence, the system created a more distinctive alternative to the flat, highly standardised graphics often seen across the industry. The redesign also expanded the role of the website beyond marketing. New careers and culture content was introduced to support recruitment efforts, helping Above Green communicate its values, team culture and opportunities to prospective talent.

Today, the Above Green website better reflects the organisation it has become: an established leader in sustainable building performance with a diverse team, specialised expertise and a growing national presence. By aligning structure, communication and creative, the new platform provides a stronger foundation for continued growth.
